Facebook boost or website banner ads?
Neither is always better. They suit different goals, and the cheapest way to find out which works for you is to test both with small, equal budgets.

| Boosted Facebook or Instagram post | Banner on a useful website | |
|---|---|---|
| Who sees it | People who match the age, place and interests you pick, while they scroll. | People using a particular website for a particular task, such as checking a vehicle or a tax figure. |
| Starting effort | Very low if you already have a page. | Low: one 300 x 250 picture and a landing page. |
| Cost control | A daily or total budget; the price per result moves with competition. | A fixed price per 1,000 views, prepaid, and it cannot overspend. |
| Attention | Competes with friends, videos and other ads in a busy feed. | Sits beside the content the visitor came for; fewer distractions. |
| Targeting | Strong: interests, age, behaviour, custom audiences. | By website, space, device and time of day; no personal profiling. |
| Measuring | Detailed dashboards inside the platform. | Views, clicks and click rate live in the console. |
| Privacy | Built on personal tracking. | No cookies and no personal profile: the ad system only counts views. |
When a boost is the better choice
- You want to reach a specific group by interest, such as new mothers, bikers or gym members.
- You are selling something people do not search for or think about until they see it.
- Your business lives on Facebook already and your goal is likes, follows or messages.
When a website banner is the better choice
- Your customer is doing a related task right now: checking a vehicle, a tax figure, an exam result, a salary scale, a train.
- You want a price you can predict and a budget that cannot overrun.
- You want fewer distractions around your ad and no personal tracking.
How to test fairly
- Use the same offer and the same landing page for both.
- Spend the same amount for the same days, for example Rs 3,000 each for 7 days.
- Count real results, not clicks: calls, WhatsApp messages and sales. A unique phone number or a code on each ad makes this easy.
- Keep the one that gives the cheaper customer, and test a new version of it.
